I touch the body and the soul responds

I love to observe.

As a child, I used to sit on my grandmother’s walnut tree and look out over the fields.

One of my favourite subjects at university was ethnography. I could spend hours in certain places, immerse myself in them and keep a diary of what I saw. I learnt to observe, without to judge.

To be there. To be a witness. This is exactly what I do in Shiatsu.

I experience again and again how deeply touch can affect my clients. Although my hands only touch the body gently, the reaction I observe comes from another dimension. From the depths of the soul.

How your soul shows itself in Shiatsu:

1. Emotions flow freely

I often experience how “pent-up” emotions are released. Tears flow freely. Disappointments and anger come to the surface, so that clenched jaws loosen a little. Previously suppressed fear becomes palpable, but also a new, free feeling in the chest, if we recognise and allow it to be there.

2. Intuition speaks up

There are moments of deep realisation. Suddenly we have a new view of things. Not because something has actually changed, but because we allow a different perspective. Our view opens up and our gut feeling emerges. We sense what is good for us and are ready to follow it.

3. Connection to yourself

Then there are moments of touching connection with ourselves. We feel ourselves from head to toe. We breathe slowly and deeply. Everything is good. Even if our complaints are still there, we feel connected. With our body and also with something bigger

4. Innerer peace and selflove

Then there comes a realisation that we are lovable just as we are. Right now, in this moment. The willingness to see the beauty in us, even if others do not. Standing up for ourselves, turning to ourselves lovingly. Giving up hardness, not comparing ourselves with others. Keeping our hearts open to ourselves through appreciation, forgiveness and gratitude.

Shiatsu makes me realise that we are more than just a body.

That our body is a wonderful, sometimes invisible bridge directly to the soul. When the body relaxes, our thoughts relax also and we can receive the messages of the soul clearly.

How do you perceive this? How does your soul speak to you?
